What is ProductWho?
ProductWho is a free mobile app that lets you scan any product barcode to discover who really owns the brand behind it. We reveal the parent company, their headquarters location, and other brands they own.
Is ProductWho free to use?
Yes, ProductWho is completely free to download and use. No ads, no tracking — just scan and discover.
What platforms is ProductWho available on?
ProductWho is available for both iOS and Android. Download it from the App Store for iPhone and iPad, or from Google Play for Android devices.
What languages does the app support?
ProductWho supports 24 European languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Greek, and more. The app automatically uses your device's language setting.

Scanning & Products

What types of barcodes can I scan?
ProductWho supports all common barcode formats including UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, EAN-8, and QR codes. Simply point your camera at the barcode and the app will automatically detect and scan it.
What if a product isn't found?
If a product isn't in our primary databases, you can use the "Deep Search" feature which searches the web for product information. Not all products can be found, especially regional or very new products.
Can I enter a barcode manually?
Yes! Tap the keyboard icon in the scanner view to manually enter a barcode number. This is useful if the barcode is damaged or hard to scan.
What products work best with ProductWho?
ProductWho works best with grocery items, beverages, personal care products, and household goods. Products from major brands are more likely to have complete ownership information. Electronics and furniture may have limited data.
Where does the product data come from?
We aggregate data from multiple open databases including Open Food Facts, Open Products Facts, and other public sources. Brand ownership information is curated from public company records and verified sources.

Brand Ownership

How accurate is the ownership information?
We strive for accuracy and regularly update our database. However, corporate ownership can change through mergers and acquisitions. If you notice an error, please contact us at support@productwho.com.
How many brands do you track?
Our database currently tracks over 3,500 brands owned by more than 400 parent companies worldwide. We continuously add new brands and companies.
What does "Brand inferred from product name" mean?
When a product's brand isn't explicitly listed in the database, we attempt to detect it from the product name. This is usually accurate, but you may want to verify independently for important decisions.
Why should I care who owns a brand?
Knowing the parent company helps you make informed purchasing decisions. You might want to support smaller companies, avoid certain conglomerates, or simply satisfy your curiosity about the corporate world.

Privacy & Data

Do you track what products I scan?
No. Your scan history is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers. We respect your privacy and don't track your shopping habits.
What data does the app collect?
We collect minimal anonymous analytics to improve the app (like crash reports). We do not collect personal information or track individual product scans. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I delete my scan history?
Yes, you can clear your entire scan history at any time from within the app. Go to the history screen and tap "Clear History".

Technical Questions

Why does the app need camera permission?
Camera access is required to scan barcodes. We only use the camera when you're actively scanning and never record or store images.
Does ProductWho work offline?
You need an internet connection to look up products. However, previously scanned products are cached on your device and can be viewed offline from your scan history.
The scanner isn't detecting my barcode. What should I do?
Make sure you have good lighting and hold your phone steady. Try using the flashlight toggle if it's dark. If the barcode is damaged, use the manual entry feature instead.
